How does scoring work?+
Predict the result of every match for 3 pts. Nail the exact 90-minute score for 9 pts. Call an upset for a +2 bonus. Knockout matches scale up to x3. Pick the World Cup winner and Golden Boot for 30 pts each. That's it — no fantasy rosters, no complicated rules. See full scoring breakdown.
What data do you access?+
Just your display name, timezone, and platform IDs needed to send prediction DMs and channel updates. We never read your messages or files. You choose your department and leaderboard visibility during onboarding. See our privacy policy.
How does the global leaderboard work?+
Any company with at least 5 active players can choose to appear on the global leaderboard at officeworldcup.com/leaderboard. Your company is ranked by average points per active player — so a 10-person team can beat a 500-person company. Individual players can also opt in or out. You're always in control of your visibility.
How do people join the pool?+
Slack: Everyone in the channel where you run /worldcup is automatically enrolled, and anyone who joins later gets in too. We recommend creating a dedicated channel (e.g. #world-cup) so only interested people opt in. Google Chat:Players DM the bot directly to join — it's opt-in by default. Admins can reset the pool anytime with /worldcup settings reset.
Can I change my predictions?+
Match predictions lock the moment you hit “Lock it in” — that's what makes it fun. Tournament picks (World Cup winner and Golden Boot, 30 points each) locked on June 15 — after a one-time extension window for the many teams who joined mid-tournament. Joining later? You can still set picks for bragging rights via /worldcup picks, but they won't earn points — your match predictions earn full points no matter when you join.
When do prediction DMs arrive?+
Weekday mornings in three regional windows — 7 AM UTC (EMEA), 1 PM UTC (Americas), 8 AM UTC (APAC). Friday's DM covers the weekend matches. Results and standings are posted to your channel after every match — games that finish during your workday post live, and late-night games arrive bundled in a single morning digest. All the banter, no wall of messages at 3 AM.
Does it work with Google Chat?+
Yes! Google Chat is fully supported. Install it from the Google Workspace Marketplace and you're ready to go. Same prediction pool, same leaderboard — just inside Google Chat.
